United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)
In February 1992, UNICEF organized its first mission to a young independent country to assess the situation of children in Kazakhstan. Immunization of all children against measles and poliomyelitis was the first UNICEF project in Kazakhstan.
For more than 20 years of its activity in Kazakhstan, the mandate of UNICEF has changed significantly: from the supply of vaccines, medicines and other material assistance, we have moved to strengthen the capacity of society and introduce advanced social technologies in the best interests of children and families.
The activities of UNICEF in Kazakhstan include three main areas:
- Equal opportunities for all children, adolescents and their families.
Expanding the range of social support for these target groups by providing them with equal and inclusive access to quality social services and benefits
- Child-friendly social environment.
Creating a social environment that is friendly to children in all life circumstances, an important factor of which is their protection from ill-treatment, including all forms of physical and psychological violence and any kind of exploitation.
- Partnership for the protection of children.
Consolidation of state institutions, public organizations, media, private sector and academia to mobilize joint efforts for promotion of the rights of disadvantaged children and adolescents in Kazakhstan and beyond.
The representative office actively interacts with state bodies represented by the Ministry of Health and Social Development, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as regional and city Akimats (local mayors’ offices). In addition to state bodies, UNICEF cooperates with international and Kazakhstani non-governmental organizations working in the interests of children. The basis for the cooperation of UNICEF in Kazakhstan with government agencies and non-governmental organizations is the Basic Plan of Operations for 2016-2020.
We believe that it is the unification of the efforts of all parties acting in the interests of the children of Kazakhstan that is the key to protecting and realizing the rights of the child.
